Tourism Blogs

Please post links to tourism blogs as a response to this posting. Your responses will create what is referred to a 'thread'. A series of postings that relate directly to a specific topic.

A bonus point will be awarded to a maximum of 3 points for every unique url posted.

What is a URL?
"A Uniform Resource Locator (URL) is a compact string representation of the location for a resource that is available via the Internet. This document provides guidelines for the definition of new URL schemes." This is the definition of the w3 organization: www.w3.org.

Although in common usage, the term is more properly referred to as a URI - Uniform Resource Identifier. According to W3: "One goal of the Web, since its inception, has been to build a global community in which any party can share information with any other party. To achieve this goal, the Web makes use of a single global identification system: the URI. URIs are a cornerstone of Web architecture, providing identification that is common across the Web."

In this course, we will use the term URL.

I decided to find blogs catering to the Health Tourism Sector (As the Baby Boomers start to retire this is going to one of the fastest growing hospitality sector):
www.treatmentabroad.blogspot.com/
www.healthmedicaltourism.org/Blogs/

Some of the other blogs that caught my attention, were blogs that allowed me to "experience" a city or a country from the comfort of my House:
www.uwishunu.com/
www.visitmybaltimore.com/video/74/
travel.paintedstork.com/blog/

Here are Marketing and Business Blogs:
http://cblog.brandcanadablog.com/
http://jensthraenhart.com/cblog/
http://tourismtechnology.rezgo.com/

For any one thats not the greatest with computer terminology, URL's: An acronym for "Uniform Resource Locator," this is the address of a resource on the Internet. World Wide Web URLs begin with http://

Ryszard,
Good job. You figured out how to make the links live for your URLs. That is very effective e-marketing. Live links are always more effective than a link that has to be cut and pasted.

You'll note that I failed to follow my own advice in my posts!

This is one time, the student set the proper example for the teacher.

Well done.

Very interesting choice of health issues. Your choice of treatmentabroad as a blog of interest to travel professionals is excellent. Many of the things I have been mentioning my posts are visible:
1) credibility through the profile.
2) URLs that are active
3) One voice with a specific point of view.

There is however, an element missing - and that is timeliness - note how much time has passed since his last entry.

Blogs are living things that need to be constantly updated. They have voracious appetites. Only people who are willing to tend them the way gardeners tend their gardens should get involved in blogging.

Here are a few links to sites I use when I am looking to find information on restaurants, events, shopping and places of interest. My favorite is Toronto Life, it features relevant blogs and columns, reliable restaurant reviews, up to date information on events, movies and nightlife, shopping, real estate and offers guides to just about anything all over the city!

Martini Boys
“Martiniboys.com is a study of all things cool: A virtual black book of the best clubs, restaurants, bars, hotels, theatres and art galleries in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, Miami and New York City.”

One of my favorite things about this site is it has a special section that uncovers in detail what’s hot, what’s not, what’s opening and closings and introduces new talent. Overall it just keeps you in the loop!

Chick Advisor
This site gives valuable advice and recommendations from other people on just about everything and anything. Find reviews on fitness clubs, restaurants, trends, health and wellness, attractions and events all over the city.

Toronto Life
Like I said, I love this site. I think of it as a combination of a newspaper and trendy fashion magazine all in one. Everything Toronto can be found here!

The following are blogs on tourism and my reasons for sharing them, I hope you will be as excited as I was when viewing and exploring them, enjoy!
1. http://www.travelblog.org/Admin/join.html?adwords=1&gclid=CLbJ2-yMt44CFQYjWAod4jd_wQ
Since I do enjoy traveling a lot, I encountered this very interesting and fun site dedicated to travel. This site allows for people to enter their journals, pictures, and more about their journeys anywhere in the world. It is easy to use as they did think about most travelers not having much time to input or share their wonderful adventures since it is likely that most travelers will be busy exploring. Those who will contribute information about their trips will probably stop at an internet cafĂ© or use someone’s internet.

2. http://www.wayn.com/
I am a member of WAYN, which is a user-friendly website that allows people around the world to connect with one another and to let others know who will, are, and have visited specific countries.

3. http://www.hotelsbycity.net/blog/
I think this is a great site as I personally am always wondering what the city is like or what it has to offer when I travel, not to mention lodgings. It is always good to hear from guests who have stayed at a hotel you were perhaps interested to stay in and how their experiences were and what they thought about the service at the hotel/s. This site also explains exactly how I would build a blog to explain corporate credibility as they encourage travelers to post their “hotel and vacation photos, podcasts, videos, travel stories, and comments” and they are truly right in saying that these features attract the viewers (Hotels by City Blogs!, 2007).

I chose a mixture of blogs and websites containing blogs.

Hospitality Net

This is actually an article on a hospitality website about e-marketing and blogging. It includes pros, cons, and why every hospitality business should investigate bloging.

Everybody Likes Sandwiches
This is an interesting a very cute blog that journals a woman’s journey through life and food. She links every dish with a story- or story with a dish. The recipes are great and her stories are heartwarming.

Inn Hospitality

Inn Hospitality is a social networking website designed for students and professionals of the hospitality industry. Members can participate in forum discussions, write blogs, search for jobs, post jobs, post events, chat with friends, and connect through social networking. Unfortunately, it is USA based.

I found an informative Holiday Destinations Blog, that gives anything and everything you, as a tourist, would want to know about the destination you are traveling to. It also has various authentic pictures.
http://www.iho-ohi.org/index.php/

The next blog site I found has to do completely with Tourism Research, E-Marketing and News Media. It's almost like an online blog newspaper for tourism media and marketing. It includes video, pictures, promotions and informative clips. It even has a piece on travel blogs!
http://tourismvc.wordpress.com/

The last blog site I found is frequently updated, and is basically random blogs about current travel and tourism topics and issues. It's very informative and will keep you up to date.

Social networking or social computing, to me, is a method of sharing information and communicating with others in a virtual environment. Using a profile anyone can log on to a social network and join a community where people share the same interests as you. These sites become forms where postings allow knowledge to be share in real time.

The following are 2 sites I found that I think everyone will find useful:

Lodging Interactive http://lodginginteractive.typepad.com/

This site is designed to provide tips on how to best market lodging properties using social networks and the Internet in general.

Wiwih http://www.wiwih.com/login.html?referer=/index.html

This site is designed as a form in which hospitality professionals can meet and share their knowledge
